About

Camden Community Wealth Fund will invest in businesses and other organisations creating opportunities for young people and increasing diversity in positions of power. In 2025, local people will help to decide who receives investment and to design the Youth and Diversity Funds.

Mission

Camden Community Wealth Fund is a £30 million social investment fund with people in Camden helping to decide how we invest the money. Starting in 2025, an initial £4 million will be invested in Camden organisations to reduce inequality and transform the quality of life for people in Camden.

Providing repayable loans and / or equity finance to businesses and other organisations across Camden, Camden Community Wealth Fund will invest in the We Make Camden Missions for the future of the Borough. Funding business and other organisations that can show both a financial return and positive benefits for the people of Camden.

We are looking for bold partners who believe in the mission of the fund as we know working alongside you the impact of Camden Community Wealth Fund will be greater than if we do it alone.

We Make Camden

In the past few years, Camden has come together in new and inspiring ways to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing the borough. In 2022, we published We Make Camden – our vision for the future of Camden. It set out what we want to collectively achieve and lead together and was developed in collaboration with residents, partners and community leaders.

During the pilot phase, Camden Community Wealth Fund will help us deliver on two of those Missions:

  • Diversity: Those holding positions of power in Camden are as diverse as our community – and the next generation is ready to follow. Our Diversity Fund has been created to respond to this goal.
  • Young People: Every young person has access to economic opportunity that enables them to be safe and secure.

To help achieve this, Camden Community Wealth Fund will:

  • Invest in organisations delivering products and / or services to people in Camden which work to reduce inequalities in the Borough
  • Involve people in Camden deciding where, how and what investments are made
  • Work with bold partners to further the reach and impact of Camden Community Wealth Fund

Participation

Camden Community Wealth Fund is doing social investment differently. Unlike traditional social investment funds, we are putting people who live, work or learn in Camden at its heart. Decision making will be fair in accordance with legal requirements and unlike other funds, Camden people will be involved throughout the process – from helping to shape the investment strategy, to helping to decide who receives investment.

We believe people who have first-hand experience of some of Camden's most pressing issues are best placed to help decide on investments for the greatest impact. This will contribute to investment going to organisations that are tackling the issues that matter most to people in Camden.

Because we are doing something different, and because we will be investing £30 million, we want to do everything we can to get this right while giving ourselves the space to test out and learn from new ways of working.

Over the next year, we will be working alongside local people to pilot two different approaches to the investment process:

  1. The Youth Fund - A Youth Panel started working at Camden Council in January 2025. Fifteen young people are contributing to decisions for the Youth Fund opening summer 2025. With an initial £2 million, the Youth Fund will support businesses and other organisations creating opportunities for young people.
  2. The Diversity Pilot - Investing £2 million in businesses and other organisations that are led by people from a diverse range of backgrounds. This Summer, we’ll be starting to recruit up to 1,000 people to help us decide how this money is invested.

From 2026 onwards, people in Camden will continue to be involved in decisions about Camden Community Wealth Fund’s investment strategy and funding, building on the lessons learnt from the Youth Fund and Diversity Fund.

Who We Are

“I’m proud that we are investing £30million in the Camden Community Wealth Fund, which will provide investment to help people grow their business and make a positive impact in Camden. To start with, we’ll be investing £4million in businesses that are empowering young people or increasing the diversity in people of power. We’re also involving people who live, work or learn in Camden to help us decide who receives investment. We’d love to work with you too – there are lots of opportunities to get involved.”

Leader of Camden Council, Councillor Richard Olszewski

Our Youth Panel

The Camden Community Wealth Fund Youth Panel is a dynamic group of fifteen passionate young people aged 16 to 25 who live, work or study in Camden. They are working on the Youth Fund to create lasting change and make a real difference for future generations of young people in Camden!

Our Core Team

Camden Community Wealth Fund is run, managed and governed by a diverse group of people from a mix of backgrounds at Camden Council. We are also working closely with local people who are helping to design it and make investment decisions.
